FSA / HSA Eligibility

Many clients are able to use HSA or FSA funds to cover all or part of their investment in the Thesis.health program.

Because eligibility is determined by your individual plan administrator, we cannot guarantee coverage. However, several clients have successfully paid using their HSA, reducing their out-of-pocket cost for the program.

We provide appropriate documentation and program descriptions to support reimbursement requests when applicable. Clients are responsible for confirming eligibility with their HSA/FSA provider prior to enrollment.

Requesting HSA/FSA Approval? Start With a Clear Letter of Medical Necessity.

Some HSA and FSA plans require a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) from a licensed healthcare provider in order to approve reimbursement for wellness-based coaching programs.

To make that process easier, we’ve created a sample LMN template you can share with your doctor as a starting point.

This document is designed to:

  • Clearly explain the nature of the Thesis.health program

  • Frame the service as lifestyle-based wellness support

  • Align with common HSA/FSA administrator language

  • Save time for both you and your physician

  • Increase the likelihood of a smooth review process

While approval is never guaranteed and varies by plan, many clients find that providing a clear, structured template helps facilitate a faster and more favorable response.

What You’ll Receive

✔ A professionally written sample Letter of Medical Necessity
✔ Language your doctor can modify as they see fit
✔ A format commonly accepted by HSA/FSA administrators
✔ Guidance on how to submit it with your reimbursement request

How to Use HSA or FSA Funds for the Thesis.health Program

While eligibility ultimately depends on your individual plan administrator, many clients are able to use HSA or FSA funds to cover part or all of their investment. The steps below can help you navigate the approval process.

Step 1: Confirm Your Account Type

Verify that you have an HSA or FSA account that allows reimbursement for health-related coaching or wellness services.

You can usually find this information:

  • In your plan summary

  • Through your HSA/FSA provider’s portal

  • By calling the customer service number on your card

Step 2: Contact Your Plan Administrator

Reach out directly to your HSA/FSA provider and ask:

“Are lifestyle-based wellness coaching or health optimization programs eligible for reimbursement under my plan?”

Important:

  • Approval is plan-specific

  • Coverage varies by administrator

  • Some plans require pre-approval, while others reimburse after payment

Step 3: Ask About Required Documentation

Some plans may ask for:

  • A program description

  • An invoice or receipt

  • A letter of medical necessity (LMN), if applicable

If documentation is required, we can provide:

  • A detailed program description

  • An itemized invoice

  • Payment confirmation

(We do not provide medical diagnoses or prescribe treatments.)

Step 4: Submit for Pre-Approval or Reimbursement

Depending on your plan:

  • You may be able to pay directly with your HSA card

  • Or you may pay out-of-pocket and submit for reimbursement

Your plan administrator can clarify which method applies.

Step 5: Retain All Records

Keep copies of:

  • Receipts

  • Invoices

  • Approval emails

  • Reimbursement confirmations

This ensures smooth processing and protects you in case of audit or follow-up.

Important Notes

  • HSA/FSA eligibility is determined solely by your plan administrator

  • Approval is not guaranteed

  • Each client is responsible for confirming eligibility

  • We are happy to support the process with documentation, but cannot advise on tax or benefits decisions
